Beschreibung

Diese Fortbildung wird in Kooperation mit der U.S. Botschaft Berlin angeboten und wendet sich an Englischlehrkräfte der Region. Muttersprachler aus den USA sprechen aus authentischer Perspektive über politische, gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Entwicklungen in den Vereinigten Staaten. Die Konferenzsprache ist Englisch und bietet so eine hervorragende Möglichkeit, die eigene Sprachkompetenz zu trainieren.

Faculty

Dr. Crister Garrett is Professor for American, Transatlantic, and International Studies at the Institute for American Studies at Leipzig University. He earned his PhD at the University of California at Los Angeles in contemporary politics and history. Prior to coming to Leipzig, Professor Garrett taught for five years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and directed the European Studies Program. His teaching and research focuses on current political and economic transformations in the United States and Europe and their impact on transatlantic relations and global governance. Professor Garrett held the Fulbright-Leipzig Chair for American Studies during 2003-2005, has been a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellow, a Rotary Fellow, and a DAAD International Guest Scholar.

Joannis Kaliampos is a researcher in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) at Leuphana University Lüneburg. He is the educational project manager and teacher trainer for the project Teach About US. He received a Staatsexamen degree in English and History (Gymnasium) from Justus Liebig University Gießen. He has held teaching positions at a secondary school (Lahntalschule Lahnau), in the German program of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith (Fulbright scholarship), and as writing consultant for international students (Justus Liebig University Gießen). Joannis Kaliampos is currently completing a PhD on learner task perceptions in blended learning EFL projects.

Rebecca Rukeyser is a fiction writer, co-founder of the Berlin Writers' Workshop, and the recipient of a 2018 "Arbeitsstipendium nichtdeutschsprachige Literatur" - Grant for Non-German Literature, awarded by the Berlin Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa. Her work has appeared in such publications as Best American NonRequired Reading, The Massachusetts Review, and ZYZZYVA. She holds an MFA in Fiction from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and teaches creative writing at Heinrich Heine Universität. Rebecca Rukeyser frequently works with ESL teachers and students throughout Germany.
